Pay it forward

As a result of participating in the LEAD 201 course I have gained and grown in many ways. I have grown to understand that leadership involves us all. This means that as a follower, I will now understand the challenges that leaders go through to lead effectively. I will be more appreciative of the little things that leaders do and realize how they match certain theories that have shown to be effective for a group. As a leader, I have learned enough about myself, my values and strengths, to help me decide on what leadership style will be best for me to use. The five expectancy leadership traits make me realize what I must do to lead effectively and be the best me that I can possibly be.

If I understand myself, I can take steps to understand others in a way that "encourages the heart" and allows them to grow in their own leadership which will only allow our group to achieve more. One year from now my goal as a leader is to make the commuter initiative grow in a way that allows me to see people benefiting from it and a community that cares and knows about one another, their victories and their struggles. I want to get this program off the ground, so that if I take a step back, others will pick it up and take it to greater heights. This means that these students will realize what a great experience the Honors College is and take the most opportunities they can, because they know what is available to them. They say that "two is better than one" and that means that three is better than two, and the more people involved the stronger they can be together.

I have had many people help me get to this point where I can develop my leadership and their encouragement is what I will always be thankful for. I want to be that for other people.
