Philosophy

"I think that above all, Leadership should be participative. The leader should offer guidance and support but still be a member of the group. Each member of the group, regardless of position, should get an input and say into where the group heads next. I think it is very important for everyone to take a role and responsibility from the group to contribute to the success."

The leadership theories that mean the most to me are the ones that talk about flexibility. These include the path-goal theory, the situational approach and the leader-member exchange theory. Leadership to me is all about followers, and you have to take hints from the people around you and see what their needs and wants are. If your followers are not so competent in the project, then you might have to be a little more directive. Supportive leadership and relationship-oriented theories of any kind can work in all situations though. The goal of any group is to be successful and to be that way, there must be agreement between the leaders and the followers. Everyone should be gaining personally from the project, as well as together as a whole. This leads into transformational leadership, team leadership and a more social development of each person's leadership. I can make sure that I am always focusing on the success of each person and how they are growing, and encourage that. Just always be watching the internal and external forces on the group, the members and how to best move forward.
